About
I am currently revising my book manuscript entitled "Expanding Racisms: Transnational Feminism, Intersectionality Politics, and Human Rights in the Americas." My book is about how feminist understandings of racism have altered what the UN considers racially unjust today, opening up new spaces and possibilities for antiracist feminist activists from the Americas. States and various civil society groups come to the UN with different understandings of racial/gender justice; thus intense contests and debates over language occurs in which my book locates itself.
I am a former University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Women’s Studies at the University of California, Riverside. My work has been published in Gender & Society, the International Feminist Journal of Politics, Societies Without Borders, and Social Justice. I serve on the editorial collective of Societies Without Borders: Human Rights and the Social Science.
I co-edited a special "double issue" for the International Feminist Journal of Politics entitled "New Directions in Feminism and Human Rights" (Vol. 12.3 & 12.4, 2010) and recently served as a co-consultant to the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women.
